Dr. Jennifer Sheehy-Knight is a Licensed Psychologist who has nearly 20 years experience providing therapy, assessment, and consultation for children and adolescents in Birmingham, Alabama and the surrounding areas. She treats a wide range of clinical conditions but specializes in neurodevelopmental disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), disruptive behaviors in young children, and anxiety disorders. In 2021, she co-founded Alabama Developmental and Behavioral Specialists clinic with Dr. Bauman. During her time at Children’s of Alabama, Dr. Sheehy-Knight created and/or co-developed multiple programs to better serve vulnerable youth including the Autism Treatment Clinic, the Autism Consultation Clinic, the Outpatient Autism Supports and Initiative for Success (OASIS) (i.e., developing accommodations and training medical staff on clinical approach), the Autism Caregiver Empowerment (ACE) parent training workshops. Dr. Sheehy-Knight also was the creator and lead clinician of an intensive consultation program to help children and adolescents with neurodevelopmental disabilities or autism who were admitted to the psychiatric unit as well as medical areas of the hospital. As an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Alabama in Birmingham (UAB), she has trained and supervised students to foster the next generation of clinicians. Dr. Sheehy-Knight proudly was part of the initial planning development committee for the Community Education Workshops for Region V Regional Autism Network (RAN).
Dr. Sheehy-Knight received her Doctorate from the University of Southern Mississippi. She completed her internship in Clinical Child Psychology at the Children’s Hospital in Ohio (now Nationwide Children’s Hospital) and The Ohio State University College of Medicine. Dr. Sheehy-Knight completed her postdoctoral LEND fellowship in neurodevelopmental disabilities as part of the interdisciplinary training program at the Clinical Center for the Study of Development and Learning (CDL), University of North Carolina, Department of Psychiatry.
Dr. Sarah Bauman is a licensed clinical psychologist who provides outpatient treatment and assessment for a wide range of clinical conditions in children and adolescents. Her specialty area is neurodevelopmental disabilities. She received her doctorate from the University of South Alabama and completed her internship at Indiana University School of Medicine. Dr. Bauman went on to complete a postdoctoral fellowship in clinical psychology through Vanderbilt University Division of Developmental Medicine and the Vanderbilt Kennedy Center Treatment and Research Institute for Autism Spectrum Disorders (TRIAD) where she was a Leadership and Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities (LEND) trainee.
Following her postdoc, Dr. Bauman worked as a clinical psychologist at Children’s of Alabama. During her time at COA, Dr. Bauman provided outpatient therapeutic and evaluation services to community youth and their families, co-developed the Autism Caregiver Empowerment (ACE) parent training workshops, treated individuals within the Autism Treatment Clinic, conducted psychological testing with children and adolescents admitted to the inpatient psychiatry unit, co-developed the Autism Consultation Clinic, conducted caregiver trainings and education seminars for medical professionals and hospital staff on Autism Spectrum Disorder and neurodevelopmental disabilities, co-developed the Outpatient Autism Supports and Initiative for Success (OASIS) program to improve care for neurodiverse youth and families within the Behavioral Health clinic, served on the planning committee for the UAB Regional Autism Network (RAN) Community Education Workshops (CEWs), and conducted and facilitated RAN CEWs for caregivers and providers of youth with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Dr. Bauman recently started a new professional journey and went into private practice with Dr. Jennifer Sheehy-Knight, founding Alabama Developmental and Behavioral Specialists (ADBS) clinic. She is excited to explore new opportunities for serving others through outpatient treatment, partnerships with local behavioral and mental health organizations, and community outreach.
